Welcome to Romulus, NY

Overview

Romulus is a town in central Seneca County, bordered to the north by Varick, to the east by Cayuga Lake (and beyond that, the town of Aurora in Cayuga County), to the south by Ovid, and to the west by Seneca Lake (and beyond that, the town of Benton in Yates County). Romulus is home to Sampson State Park and to the former Seneca Army Depot, which is being converted to other uses. The town also is home to Five Points Correctional Facility, a state prison, and the Willard Drug Treatment Center, a former state mental hospital.

Essentials

Romulus has a few small stores, but you’ll have to travel a short way for most shopping needs. For groceries, the closest Wegmans supermarket is in Geneva, Ontario County (about 16 miles northwest of Romulus). The closest Tops Friendly Markets store is in Waterloo, about 12 miles north of Romulus. For retail shopping, Waterloo is the best bet, with a Walmart on North Road and the large and popular Waterloo Premium Outlets, which attracts shoppers from throughout the area to outlet stores like Aeropostale, Eddie Bauer, Ann Taylor and Ralph Lauren.

Recreation & Entertainment

Being nestled between two major Finger Lakes means most of the attractions in Romulus are water-related, like fishing, boating and camping. Sampson State Park is in Romulus. There are a few wineries in town and several others nearby.

Transportation & Traffic

Several north-south highways run through Romulus, including routes 89, 96, 96A and 414.

Pros & Cons

The biggest attractions here are Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake. Romulus is in the heart of the lovely Finger Lakes region, and there are lots of natural beauty here but not a lot of development. The busier town of Waterloo and city of Geneva are close drives from here.
