Welcome to Varick, NY

Overview

Varick is a town in central Seneca County, bordered to the north by Fayette, to the east by Cayuga Lake, to the south by Romulus, and to the west by Seneca Lake. As with many towns in Seneca County, Varick’s location between two of the larger Finger Lakes means this is a busy area for boating, fishing and wineries. There are about half a dozen wineries in Varick, and many more up and down the shorelines of both lakes.

Essentials

For most shopping needs, you’ll have to travel to either Geneva (in Ontario County) or to Waterloo or Seneca Falls. Geneva (about 14 miles northwest) has a Wegmans supermarket, a Top’s Friendly Markets store, a busy downtown area with small shops, and a Walmart Supercenter. Waterloo (about 12 miles north) also has a Walmart and a Top’s.

Recreation & Entertainment

Other than the natural beauty of Seneca and Cayuga lakes and nearby state parks, there are not a lot of things to see or do here. Varick is a town of fewer than 2,000 residents, and many here are involved in farming and wineries – this area is part of the well-known Finger Lakes Wine Trail. You’ll find dozens of wineries up and down both Seneca and Cayuga lakes.

Transportation & Traffic

Four busy north-south highways pass through Varick: Route 96, Route 89, Route 414 and Route 96A. Route 336 is a small east-west highway in part of Varick.

Pros & Cons

Small-town living and the town’s location between Seneca and Cayuga lakes are the attractions here. You’re close to several state parks and just a short drive to the city of Geneva, which offers almost any amenity you’ll need.
