Welcome to Macedon, NY

Overview

Located in the southwest corner of Wayne County, Macedon borders Ontario County to the south and Monroe County to the west. The town of Macedon also includes a village of the same name. Macedon came about because of the Erie Canal; the town was incorporated in 1823, during canal construction, from what had been the western half of Palmyra. The village of Macedon is centered around Lock 30 on the canal, and, as such, is busy with boaters and tourists during the canal season. Macedon, like Lyons and Newark, has its own police department.

Essentials

The closest supermarkets are Wegmans stores, to the east in Newark or to the west in Perinton. Newark also has Maple Ridge Grocery and Save-a-Lot grocery stores. Macedon has a Walmart Super Store and a Lowe’s, and more shopping at West Wayne Plaza. The enormous Eastview Mall, the largest mall in the region, is about 10 miles south, in Victor.

Recreation & Entertainment

The canal, again, is the focal point in town. Village officials sponsor a summer concert series at Canal Park, where you’ll also find a Butterfly Nature Trail. Gravino Park hosts a movie night in the summer. Macedon has Canaltown Cinema, which shows first-run movies, and Countyline Raceway, which has go-karts and arcade games.

Transportation & Traffic

State Highway 31 is the main east-west roadway and runs through the middle of Macedon. Route 350 is the primary north-south highway. The Thruway exit in Manchester, Ontario County, is about 10 miles to the southeast. (Being a canal town, Macedon also is approachable by water during canal season.)

Pros & Cons

Living here, you’re only minutes from Monroe County and all of its amenities and minutes from Ontario County. You’re also in a canal town, with plenty of activities by the canal, and close to the enormous Hill Cumorah Pageant, which is held in summer in the Palmyra area. Macedon is close to the Thruway, and is about five miles west of the High Acres Landfill in Perinton.
