Welcome to Rose, NY

Overview

The town of Rose, east of the center of Wayne County, includes the hamlet of North Rose. With only about 2,300 residents, Rose is among the smallest towns in Wayne County. This town is pretty much wide open, with camping and wildlife areas but little retail business. Route 414 runs north-south right through Rose. The Clingerman Wildlife Museum is here, and Sodus Creek flows through the town to Sodus Bay. The North Rose-Wolcott School District serves residents who live here. One interesting tidbit from Rose’s history: Around 1840, residents were convinced that gold and precious gems were buried here, but no treasures were ever found.

Essentials

This is a very rural area, so most of your shopping and grocery shopping will be in Wolcott, Lyons or Sodus. The Rose Free Library is at 4069 Main St. The closest hospital is Newark-Wayne Community, to the southwest in Newark.

Recreation & Entertainment

Again, because this is a very rural area, most of the entertainment here is of the outdoor variety, such as hunting, snowmobiling or hiking. Sodus Bay touches the northern part of town and Rose is about halfway between Lake Ontario and the Erie Canal. Movie theaters can be found to the northeast in Wolcott or to the south in Lyons and Newark.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 414 runs through the town of Rose and is the main roadway in the area. The Thruway is about 20 miles south. Route 104, a major east-west highway, is about five miles north.

Pros & Cons

If you like wide-open quiet rural areas, Rose is for you. Other than outdoor activities, this area does not offer other recreational options and shopping that can be found in nearby communities.
